Rebecca (Becca) Mason Rook

Heaven received an angel with the arrival of Rebecca (Becca) Mason Rook, 74, wife of Benjamin Thomas Rook. Becca died on May 1, 2024 at her home in Greenville, SC with her husband by her side. She had fought a long battle with Parkinson’s Lewy Body disease. As she experienced the escalating devastation of her illness, she became an inspiration to all. She greeted each day with a smile of optimism, deep appreciation for her husband’s abundant loving care, delight in her energizingly beautiful surroundings, and visits from her devoted family and friends.

Born in Corpus Christi, TX, she was the daughter of the late Mrs. Mildred McClain Mason of Charlotte, NC and the late Mr. William Cornelius Mason of Laurinburg, NC. Though she moved with her family to Charlotte, she remained a “high-spirited” Texan throughout her life. Becca was a graduate of Appalachian State University. She then earned a Master of Guidance and Personnel Services from Clemson University and worked at Greenville Technical College as a college counselor.

Becca had a strong desire to make a difference in her community. She and Ben were involved in the creation of the Cancer Survivors Park and in the establishment of Artisphere in Greenville. Moreover, she volunteered for many organizations – the Junior Leagues of Greenville and Charlotte, the Clemson University Center for Visual Arts, and the Hessie Morrah Garden Club.

Becca and Ben met in Charlotte, and it was love at first sight. After a long courtship, they married in 1973. Throughout their 56-year partnership, Becca’s generous and gracious spirit helped Ben establish relationships with his clients that lasted a lifetime. She was always eager to provide leadership and contribute to the many endeavors required of Ben’s career. In addition, she eagerly led the many moves of the family in support of building their lives and businesses together in Boston, Charlotte and ultimately in Greenville.

Becca was a devoted wife and mother and an avid Clemson football fan. Her pride and joy was raising her daughters. Becca was a devout Christian, as exemplified by her constant faith and service to others. She loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling, gardening, exercising, and volunteering. She also hosted many charitable events in her home and made entertaining for hundreds look so easy.

In addition to her husband Ben, Becca is survived by her children, Kelly Rook Wolfensperger (Mike) of Atlanta, GA and Jennifer Rook White (Chris) of Austin, TX along with her four granddaughters, Madison and Savannah Wolfensperger, and Katherine and Elizabeth White. She is also survived by her sister, Pam Lane (Cliff) of Raleigh, NC, her brother Doyt Mason of Houston, TX, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Drs. Donna and Cary Stroud of Easley, SC.

The family is extremely grateful to Becca’s extensive medical team, including Dr. Jim Burford, Dr. Kathleen Woschkolup, and the world’s best caregivers Kristal Blanton and Tamiko (Miko) Durham. We are also grateful for the consultations provided by the integrated care team at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

A small family service will be held at their home with Pastor Stephen Kidd officiating.
