Retired Assistant Chief Deroy N. Mills

Deroy N. Mills, 85, of 6 Covington Road, widower of Grace Henderson Mills, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Born in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Roy K. and Lena Petit Mills. Mr. Mills retired in 1985 as Assistant Chief with Parker District Fire Department following 35 years of service, and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran having served during WWII and fought on Iwo Jima. Surviving are a son, Terry Mills of Rock Hill, SC; a stepson, Wayne Green of Greenville; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Jo Bomer and Jimmie Ann Segar. Visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in the downtown chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
