The Reverend Robert Edward Long, 81, of 2 Hillview Dr., Greenville died June 11, 2006 at Rolling Green Village. Born in Asheville, NC, he was a son of the late Robert Henry and Susanne Brenisen Long. He served his country in the US Army during WWII in Europe. Reverend Long earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College, Davidson, NC. He was also a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA and The University of the South at Sewanee, Sewanee, TN. He was an Episcopal Priest, serving Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington, NC and in the following churches of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina: St. Luke?s Episcopal Church in Newberry, St. David?s Episcopal Church in Cheraw, St. Simon and St. Jude Episcopal Church in Columbia, St. John?s Episcopal Church in Winnsboro, Church of the Cross in Columbia, and Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville. Surviving are his wife Margaret DuPre Long; daughter, Elizabeth Hartge and husband Scott of Greenville; two grandchildren, Haley DuPre and Robert Gordon Hartge; brother Ralph Alexander Long; and numerous nieces and nephews. Reverend Long was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Susanne Long and a brother, William Brenisen Long. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm in the McCall Parlor at Christ Church Episcopal. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the church, with the Rev. Robert Dannals and the Rt. Rev. Charles Duvall officiating. Interment following in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Matthew 25 Endowment Fund, Christ Church Episcopal, 10 N. We are so sad to hear of Father Long's passing. He married us 10 years ago this coming November at Christ Church. We were so fond of him and enjoyed the time we spent with him throughout the wedding preparation. He was a gentle soul with so much to offer.
