Rhunet E. Scroggs Hampton passed away on January 14, 2021.
On October 27, 1932 Rhunet Emmie Scroggs was born to Edgar Hubert Scroggs and Lessie Ida Bennett Scroggs. In 1950 Rhunet married WWII Marine veteran James Oris (Buck) Hampton.
She served as a pianist and organist at Wesley Memorial Southern Methodist Church for 50 years. Rhunet was a Cosmetologist at Connie Campbell Beauty Salon for more than 35 years. She is survived by her son, Wayne Hampton and his wife Cathy Hampton; a daughter, Kimberly Dawn Hampton McCauley and husband Bob McCauley and their son Ben McCauley; a daughter-in-law, Christine Hampton; Ed’s children, James Hampton and Allison Hampton Reed as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Rhunet is predeceased by her husband James Oris (Buck) Hampton, eldest son, James Edward Hampton, granddaughters, Mary Beth Hampton Clevenger and Rebecca Ann Hampton Ball, daughters of Wayne and Cathy.
She loved cooking, music – especially gospel, and family. She is loved by many and will be missed by all.
Although there will be no public visitation with the family prior to the service, friends may come to view and sign the guestbook on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in Graceland Cemetery West. Masks are required in all Thomas McAfee Funeral Home locations. The family kindly requests those attending the graveside service wear masks, avoid physical contact, and observe social distancing recommendations.
