Richard F Newell

Dr. Richard F. Newell, 84, husband of June Werner Newell, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Summit Place. Born in Westfield, NY, he was the son of the late Richard and Ruth Trank Newell. Dr. Newell was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, class of 1946, and earned his Ed.D. from the University of Buffalo. He was a retired Professor of Mathematics from Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY following 40 years of service. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a United States Navy veteran having served during WWII. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years; are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard G. and Sandi Newell of Mayville, NY; a daughter, Nancy Newell of Powdersville; grandchildren, Dr. Richard Newell and his wife, Kim, Krista Newell, Ryan Newell, Kathryn Rigdon, Ricky Rigdon, Rebecca Rigdon, Mike Rigdon and his wife, Cheryl, Steven Rigdon, Kevin Rigdon, Angela Rigdon, Whitney Rigdon, David Rigdon, Curtis Newell and his wife, Katie, Jessica Berch and her husband, Patrick; and a great granddaughter, Jaime Rigdon. He was preceded in death by a son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Gary, Doreen and Stephanie Newell. Visitation will be held Friday, February 8, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. in the downtown chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park. The family will be at their respective homes.
