Richard Joseph Langlais, 74, of 180 Sandstone Dr., Taylors, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006. Born in Scituate, RI, he was the devoted husband of Vivian E. Langlois Langlais and a devoted father and grandfather. His life was a living example of self-sacrifice and unconditional love. He was the son of the late Rosario J. and Albertine M. Blanchard Langlais. Mr. Langlais was a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Science degree; and also Bentley School of Finance and Administration where he received his BS degree in Accounting. He was a 1st Lt. in the Finance Corps. in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was associated with Scovell Wellington and Co. of Boston, the Continental Elastic Corp. and the Scovill Mfg. Co., both in New Bedford, MA. Prior to his retirement, he was the CFO and EVP of Rhode Island Textile Company. Mr. Langlais was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors, SC. Surviving are two sons, Stephen R. Langlais and his wife Donna of Warwick, RI and Robert C. Langlais and his wife Juanita of Kernersville, NC; a daughter Robyn A. Maggio and her husband Richard of Taylors, SC; two brothers, Albert G. and Arthur R. Langlais, both of Hope, RI; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Jaynene, Jessica and Christopher Langlais; and Mathieu, Michael and Danielle Maggio. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Maurides and Dr. Jeffrey Giguere for their devoted care and friendship. Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006 at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA with the funeral mass to follow Monday morning. The 7:00 pm mass on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors, SC will be in memory of Mr. Langlais. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Charities Foundation, 65 International Drive, Greenville, SC 29615.
