Robbie Bishop Herd, 97, of Simpsonville, S.C, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024.
She was born in Piedmont, S.C., the youngest of nine children to the late James Toy and Nannie Mackey Bishop.
She is survived by son, Jim and Laura Herd of Simpsonville, S.C.; daughter, Nan and Ian McCaslin of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren, John and Samantha Herd of Niwot, CO, David and Alex Herd of Simpsonville, S.C., Ross and Katherine McCaslin of Warren, R.I., Amy McCaslin of Lakewood, CO; and great-granddaughter, Caroline Herd. Robbie was pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years, Leon Otto Herd, in 2009.
Robbie was a member of Simpsonville Presbyterian Church, where she loved church activities, doing for others, arranging flowers, and spending game day with “the ladies”. Robbie stayed active with gardening, travel, and making new friends. She loved to cook and was always looking for the next best pound cake. When her children were young, Robbie was a Cub Scout leader, taught children to swim, always served on the school PTA board, busied herself with sewing, canning pickles and produce, and making jams and jellies. She got up on her first try water skiing at age 42 and was so proud she didn’t get her hair wet. She also learned to snow ski on her 50th birthday!
She was a beloved member of her church and community, and the best mother and grandmother! Her family is so thankful that she had such a long, wonderful life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or Simpsonville Presbyterian Church, 510 E. Curtis Street, Simpsonville, S.C., 29681. She will be interred in Rose Hill Cemetery in Piedmont, S.C. beside Leon.
