Robert Franklin Deal was born in his maternal grandmother’s home in Connelly Springs, North Carolina to George Avery Deal and Lydia Franklin Deal. He is survived by his wife Dianne Burns Deal, daughters Deborah Deal (Frank Carll) and Kim Deal and son Robert Michael Deal (Andrea), granddaughters Alissa DeLano (Eric) and Erin Deal, great-grandson Cy Warren and great-granddaughter Evie DeLano.
He is also survived by his sister Bonnie Stephenson, brother Wayne Deal (Barbara) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Homer Deal, George William Deal, and Charles Deal.
Robert graduated from Valdese High School. Afterwards, he earned a degree as a manufacturing engineer. He worked for General Electric in both North and South Carolina and retired from Square D in Seneca, SC.
He was a charter member and ordained Deacon at Holly Ridge Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC and was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church, where he played the tuba in the church orchestra. He earned his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, EAA and AOPA. He was an extra in the George Clooney movie “Leatherheads,” and his scene made it into the movie. He served in the National Guard and was a member of the Upstate Senior Action Band and the Greenville Woodworkers Guild.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Taylors First Baptist Church followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC.
