Rogelio “Roger” Arturo Arguello, 80, beloved husband of Catherine “Cathy” Arguello, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, February 9, 2024.
Rogelio was born on January 12, 1944 to the late Arturo Argüello and Cruz Yépez de Argüello in La Asunción, Ecuador.
In addition to his loving wife Cathy, he is survived by his daughters, Erin Carpentieri and Lisa Arguello-Ruiz; his grandchildren, William and James Carpentieri, and Emma and Amanda Ruiz; his brothers, Enrique, Efren, César, and Rodrigo; his sister, Sonia; his son-in-laws, Kevin Carpentieri and Fernando Ruiz; and his many nieces and nephews.
Soon after moving to the U.S., he met his wife Cathy. They married in 1974 and made their home, raising their family in Brooklyn, NY.
Beginning his career in the New York City corporate offices of American Express as a Keypunch Operator. Roger worked his way up, advancing in the IT field. As the technology field grew, so did Roger’s role and career at American Express until his retirement after more than 35 years.
Eventually, Roger and Cathy decided to move from their Brooklyn home, to enjoy their retirement years in Simpsonville, SC.
Roger was a self-taught musician and will be remembered for his love of music. He often played the guitar or piano to entertain friends and family.
Roger and Cathy enjoyed traveling. Ever adventurous, even while in his 70s, he went zip-lining during their most recent trip to the Andes Mountains in Ecuador. Over the last few years, Roger and Cathy enjoyed vacationing with family and friends, including traveling on cruises and a trip to Ireland to attend his niece’s wedding last year.
All those who knew Roger understood his dedication and his love for his family, both immediate and extended. He valued the simple and extraordinary gift of gathering together with those he loved. His joy in being a devoted father to his daughters was surpassed only by his love and pride of being a grandpa. He treasured the time he spent with each of his grandchildren. Roger will be affectionately remembered for his remarkable good nature, his willingness to volunteer help, his quiet and kind generosity, and above all else for the laughter he brought to those around him with his sense of humor.
There will be a Recitation of the Rosary on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast with a visitation following until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
