Roy Mason Smith, 78, son of the late Roy Gordon and Grace Burdine Smith, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008. Mr. Smith was a very active lifelong member of Berea First Baptist Church. He worked in the nursery of the Church for 27 years. He was the owner of Piedmont Environmental Specialists. He was the former owner of Smith's Amoco on Woodruff Rd. and later worked for the City of Inman until his retirement. Mr. Smith was a member of Woodmen of the World and the American Legion. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean War. Surviving Roy is the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Bonnie Sams Smith. He is also survived by twin daughters, Melissa Smith Williams Missy and Melinda Smith Brown Mindy and husband Paul Naaman Brown; two precious grandchildren, Rebecca Rae Tatyana Williams and Paul Mason Brown; a sister Norma Jean Smith Allen and her husband Tom; three sisters-in-law, Beth Sams Turner, Sarah Sams Wells and Faye Sams Jordan, whom he loved like sisters. Roy is also survived by a special cousin, Randy Noe, his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Alex, of New Braunsfels, TX, as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Stephen Keith Williams. Visitation will be Monday, February 25, 2008, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Berea First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery West.
