Ruth Evans Bigby Cohn

Ruth Bigby Cohn, 86, of 17 Ogden Dr., Greenville, SC, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2008. Born January 30, 1922 in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Thomas Evans and Edna Evans. She attended Wofford College, Furman University, and graduated from Holmes Bible College. She was the wife of the late Rev. James R. Cohn. Mrs. Cohn was also predeceased by her first husband, Rev. Thomas R. Bigby, to whom she was married for over 46 years. She had been very active as a volunteer at Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she was named Volunteer of the Month, and also at the Senior Action Center. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and loved her Lord. She taught her family the gift of loving and helping others as Jesus taught, and she radiated her love of God and let others see Jesus in her life. Surviving are three daughters, Suzanne Davis Glenn and husband Richard of Myrtle Beach, SC, Sandy Bigby Thornton and husband Sonny of Greenville, SC, and Phyllis Bigby Cothran and husband David of Piedmont, SC; son, Thomas Bigby and wife Lynn of Greenville, SC; eight grandchildren, Jon and Steve Davis, Chris Smith and wife Kristi, Ryan Smith and wife Kim, Charlene DeSha and husband Tommy, Michelle Urciouli and husband John, Jodie McBride, and Thomas Bigby; and nine great-grandchildren, Felix Peluso, Farrah and Fletcher McBride, Kirk and Ashley Davis, Eli DeSha, Grace Urciouli, Nick Newman, and Noah Smith. She also leaves behind six sisters, Mary Sharpe, Millie Montgomery and husband Bill, Esther Hopkins, Nina Nease, Francis Clyburne, Jeannette Bailey and husband Bo, and a brother Carey Evans. A special thank you to Jackie Smith for all she has done for Mrs. Cohn the last few months. Mrs. Cohn was preceded in death by three brothers, T.O. Evans, Jr., Harold Evans, and William Evans; and sister, Lessie Edwards. The Funeral Service will be conducted Wednesday at 12 Noon at Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown and at the home of Thomas Bigby, 18 Valley Oaks Dr., Greenville, SC 29617 following the service at the graveside.
