Ruth Newton Hazelwood

Ruth Newton Hazelwood, 84, of 227 Carolina Avenue, widow of Edward Hazelwood, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Providence N.E. Medical Center, Columbia. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Mattie Mae Moore Newton. Reared in Woodruff, Mrs. Hazelwood was a graduate of Woodruff High School and was a member of the Girl?s basketball team. She was retired from the Greenville County School District and was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jim Heard of Columbia; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Donna Hazelwood of Greenville; three sisters, Edith Walker of Fayetteville, NC., Grace Gager of Greenville, Bobbie Cochran of Pendleton; four grandchildren, Kristen Hazelwood Brewer, Jim Heard, Chris Heard, and David Heard. She was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Newton, Jr, and a sister, Mary ?Pat? Harper. Memorials may be made to John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 1801 W. Parker Road, Greenville, SC 29617. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West. The family will be at the residence.
