Sam Story Patterson, Sr., 79, of 113 Thomas Street, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on a farm in Tift County, GA to the late Lille S. and Robert A. Patterson. Mr. Patterson attended Parker High School and owned Sam Patterson Electric Company. A Sergeant in the United States Army, he served in the Pacific Theater and the Occupation of Japan. He was a member of City View First Baptist Church where he was a former RA Leader, Deacon and Coach. He was a talented golfer and was a member of Sommersett Golf Club for many years. His dedication to family kept him from pursuing a golf career. ?Grandpa? was a great supporter and coach for his grandchildren?s many sporting events. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Ruth Ann Patterson of the home; a son, Sam S. Patterson, Jr. and his wife, Victoria of Kissimmee, FL.; three daughters, Diane P. Jones and her husband, L. Sidney of Easley, Suzanne P. Johnson and her husband, Charles E. of Greer, and Karri P. Shook and her husband, David E. of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Donna A. Patterson of Taylors; adoring grandchildren, Sean Story Patterson, Devin Howard Patterson, Eran Ashley Patterson, Emily Nicole Jones, Christopher Laurin Jones, Kristofor Tyler Johnson, Jessica Ruth Johnson, Zachary Story Johnson, Joshua David Shook and Samantha Story Shook. He was preceded in death by a loving son, William Dan Patterson, and his siblings, Louise Trammel, Robert A. Patterson, Mac V. Patterson and Arthur F. Patterson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Memorials may be made to City View First Baptist Church, 2300 W. Blue Ridge Drive, Greenville, SC 29611 or Greenville County Cancer Society, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605. Visitation will be held Friday, January 19, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at City View First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence.
