Deborah Shears Pierce left a message on September 14, 2023:
To the entire Howard family my deepest most heartfelt condolences on Sam's passing. I lived in Greenville while in my 40's and Sam was my landlord at the trailer park. In the 4 years that I lived there and knew Sam he became much more than a landlord toe me. In many ways he was my friend, brother, father, mentor and someone I came to love for the enormity of his heart. His obituary clearly states the nature of his character. Through the passing years I knew that Sam was just a phone call away. Just last week my partner, who has heard many Sam stories over our time together, and I were at a sports bar for lunch and they were playing the Gamecocks game from September 2 20023. I mentioned to Brian that Sam had gone to school their, and Brian said "Call Sam and tell him if he'll go to a University of Oklahoma {Brian's alma mater} with me. I'll go to a USC game with him." When I tried to find a contact number for Sam, I found instead his obituary, That broke my heart, Sam was always one of several beloved friends God has blessed me with over the years. In a lot of ways Brian reminds me a lot of Sam. I will miss Sam sorely and I offer my deepest apologies for being this late in offering my Condolences. Deborah Shears Pierce 757 577 5623

To the Howard family. I am very sorry. Love truly makes the world go around. The earth stopped when Sam took his final breath. He was a good and kind man who loved deeply. Kahlil Gibran said," ...love knows not its own depth, until the hour of separation. " I agree with his sentiment. RIP Sam. The gates of heaven opened to receive you.. ❤

My deepest sympathy to you, Janie, and to Christine, Leslie and their families. Sammy was a breath of fresh air in our family and we always enjoyed the times we spent with him. One special memory was how he said John’s (my son) middle name should be Saleem because he was born on Sammy’s birthday! Sammy always brought smiles to our faces and he will be missed.

Jane and Family, I cannot begin to express our sadness over the loss of Sam. He was such a wonderful person and we thought the world of him. When our son, CJ, asked him to be his Godfather at confirmation he jumped at the opportunity. Breakfast with him at Tommy's over the years brought many happy memories for all. May you find peace in knowing he no longer suffers and that he loved and adored all of you!!!! God Bless
