Sandra Lynn Bannister, 73, beloved wife of the late Roger Bannister, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
Born in Stinesville, IN, she was the daughter of the late James and Arlene Punkett Lawrence.
Sandra’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of the New Life Worship Center. Her voice lifted in harmonious praise, resonating with the joy she found in singing hymns to her Lord and Savior.
She served as a beacon of knowledge and inspiration to countless young minds during her years as a teacher in the Greenville County Schools. She found joy in shaping young lives, leaving an indelible mark on the halls of Grove Elementary and Hollis Middle School.
After retirement, Sandra shared moments of laughter and companionship with her retired teacher friends at a favorite restaurant, K&S Cafeteria.
The ocean held a special place in Sandra’s heart. Her trips to the beach were cherished moments, surrounded by the beauty of the shoreline and the soothing embrace of the ocean breeze.
Above all, Sandra was a beloved mother and grandmother. Her nurturing nature extended to her family, and her presence brought comfort and joy to her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Henderson (Gary); granddaughter, McKenzie Henderson; and three brothers, Michael Lawrence, Luke Lawrence, and Billy Lawrence.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stacey Bannister; and two sisters, Deborah Rodgers and Pamela Lawrence Alderman.
A visitation will be held August 14, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
