Shannon Marie (Scales) Ferrill, 40, beloved wife and best friend of Eric Ferrill, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 in Greenville, SC.

Shannon was born and raised in Drexel Hill, PA, beloved daughter of Karen Chandlee Scales and the late Robert Scales. She received her undergraduate degree from Rosemont College. While studying there, she discovered the call to help others in need and decided to pursue her graduate degree in the medical field in order to do so. She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2007 with a Master of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders. With this degree, she worked to help others as a Speech Language Pathologist. She was a therapist at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC where she helped countless patients over her 16 year career. Her patients loved working with her and would often return to visit and celebrate their successful rehabilitation.

Shannon’s greatest passion in life was being a mother to her two children, Leo (age 11) and Maggie (age 8). She loved everything about motherhood and was happiest when participating in a wide range of activities with the kids: reading, throwing the football, arts, crafts, cheering from the sidelines at soccer games, singing, dancing, kicking the soccer ball, origami, yoga, hiking, board games, science experiments (except making slime!), painting, chalk drawings, etc. She absolutely loved any activity with her family.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two children and her brother, Christopher Scales.

A private memorial and celebration of life service will be held.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

So many of my memories growing up have our beautiful Shannon in them. From beach trips, to late night sleepovers, to trips to Wawa for our french vanilla cappuccinos and countless other memories we had together. We could always make each other laugh until we cried. She was my best friend for so many years. We were known as Lucy and Ethel. My family was her family and hers, mine. She will forever be in my heart.

I met Shannon through Eric while he and I worked together in Charleston. I was fortunate to be able to hang out with them often for those 18 months. Shannon was always fun to be around. I’ll never forget the time when she told me she was often told she looked like a male celebrity (Tom Cruise) and I guessed Ben Stiller. She never let me live that one down, though I did successfully point out that Stiller portrayed Cruise on a Celebrity Jeopardy SNL skit! To this day, every single time I see Tina Fey on TV or in a movie I am reminded of Shannon. From hanging out at Red’s on Shem Creek, watching The Office & Ali G at their apartment, to traveling to Savannah with them…I never had a bad time hanging out with Shannon. I carry nothing but fond memories of her along with a ton of laughs. My heart breaks for those who were closest to her. In times like these I’m comforted by the words the Apostle Paul wrote about times of suffering in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. Eric, Leo, Maggie, and the extended family will be heavy on my heart and in my prayers for many, many days to come.

So heartbreaking! We will miss her terribly in rehab downtown St. Francis. Always the cheerleader for others. Our loss is heaven's gain. I know her family is going to miss her terribly, and my heart breaks for them as well. Godspeed Shannon. ❤️

I am so, so sorry for your loss. Shannon was one of the kindest people I've ever met. I will always cherish our conversations in the speech office. We had a lot of fun times together at work as well as outside of work- speechie dinners, pumpkin parties and running in races together. Eric, I am praying for you, your children and the rest of your family. May all of your cherished memories, your friends and your family help bring you some peace during this difficult time.

My dear Karen, our hearts are broken with the loss of Beloved Shannon. We have of so many wonderful memories of her as a child and the woman she became. We will keep you and all the family in our prayers. Love you always!! Janet and Brud.

Remembering and cherishing our “adopted” third daughter, our beloved Shannon. Our daughter,Krissie and Shannon were the best of friends throughout middle, high school years and beyond! Known as “Lucy and Ethel” by Shannon’s Dad, the two girls delighted both families by not only their silliness but, their great love and loyalty toward each other and their friendship. I still remember when Eric met Shannon. She was working as a receptionist in our Charleston office and Eric got invited out after work. He was so excited and came back the next day and told Andrew and I “I think she likes the nerdy type”. It took off from there. Eric, you have a lot of extended family on your side that love you and the kids very much. Stay strong.

Shannon, you are so loved and will be so missed by so many. Probably one of the kindest souls I have ever met! So beautiful and smart, always that beautiful smile on her face when she would greet you in the morning. our patients loved her and so did all the staff at Saint Francis! I feel very blessed to have worked with her for several years. My prayers go out to her family and to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be your forever angel in heaven, watching over you and loving you. She is at peace with the Good Lord.
