Sharon “Shay” A. McGuffin

Sharon A. McGuffin, 79, beloved wife of Jerry Ray McGuffin of Greenville, peacefully passed away Friday, July 8, 2022.

Born in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Rosa Lunette “Big Red” (Carson) Boone and Thomas Jefferson “TJ” Boone, Sr. She was the second child born in her family of four and throughout her life remained close to her three siblings. As her family grew, Shay treasured the many Christmases celebrated at her parents’ home.

Shay graduated from Parker High School in 1961 and married Jerry Ray in 1963. The two were blessed with three children. Shay was a devoted wife and mother who took pride in raising her children and caring for her home.

She was outgoing and funny, enjoyed telling stories and making others laugh, and never met a stranger. Shay loved listening to music and years ago was quite the dancer. She enjoyed visiting Holden Beach in North Carolina with her family, playing games on her computer, watching scary movies with her grandchildren, and reading books.

Affectionately called MaMa and Nina, Shay was a proud and doting grandmother who cherished her relationships with Jessica, Ben, and Meredith.

In addition to her husband Jerry Ray, Shay is loved and mourned by two daughters, Lynn Haskins (Pete) and Paige McGuffin; a son, Christopher McGuffin; three grandchildren; a sister, Loretta Medlin; two brothers, Tommy Boone (Brenda) and Nick Boone (Marie); a sister-in-law, Louise Grant (Jim) of Glendale AZ; a brother-in-law, James McGuffin (Deb) of Pelzer; and several special nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Burial will be privately held at the convenience of her family.
