Shirley Barnett Young passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, William & Sybil Caldwell Barnett, and her beloved sister, Marlene Barnett. She leaves behind a cherished aunt, Vivian Williamson, cousins, many friends and her joyful parakeet, Ozzie.

Shirley was born and lived in Greenville, with a short enjoyable time spent working in Memphis, Tennessee. She loved her South Carolina home and heritage, yet possessed an adventurous spirit and loved traveling – especially summer beach vacations. Shirley was an excellent pianist with a strong appreciation for all music. She also had a love of gardening that she inherited from her mother. A proud graduate of Greenville High School, she enjoyed working on the reunion committees. Shirley spent most of her career working as a legal assistant with several different law firms.

Shirley was truly a gracious southern lady with a beautiful smile and a kind heart. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

A celebration of life will be held graveside at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.

Shirley will always be remembered by me as my smiling Southern Belle.

The light of your smile will always shine in my heart.

Shirley was a beautiful person, inside and outside. She was always so very sweet and kind. I always enjoyed her friendship and I thought the world of her.

Shirley was a wonderful friend and classmate. She made a difference wherever she went. She will be greatly missed.
