Stevie Klein, a devoted mother, retired pharmacist, and grandmother, passed away on February 27, 2023 at the age of 73.

She was born on December 22, 1949 in Greenville, South Carolina, to her late parents Paul and Dena Efstration. Stevie was a graduate of Greenville High School and an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was a compassionate and dedicated pharmacist who graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina and practiced for over 40 years. She was known for her kind and friendly nature towards all of her patients who often looked forward to seeing her.

Stevie was a loving mother to her three children who were the pride and joy of her life and an incredible grandmother to her three grandchildren – all of whom she adored and deeply cherished. Stevie always made time for her family, and her love for them was evident in everything she did. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with them whether it was going to the beach or simply watching movies.

Stevie was an exceptional pharmacist who touched many lives throughout her career. She was highly respected by her colleagues and patients for her professionalism, dedication, and kindness. Her passing has left a void in the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and patients alike, but her legacy will continue to live on through the memories and love she shared.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Christopher Klein (Kerri), Nicholas Klein (Stephanie), and Dena Klein McGuire (Shane); grandchildren, Inara McGuire, Jacob Klein, and Kendall Klein; two sisters, Kay Efstration and Caren Chitwood; and many other nieces and nephews.

Stevie was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Paul Efstration.

There will be a visitation on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church followed by the Trisagion until 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Society https://www.stjude.org/give/planned-giving/give-to-live-society.html in honor of Stevie’s love of children and passion for helping others.

I bought a 1969 copy of The Columbian, the yearbook for Columbia College at a small shop, and was looking up students in it. I came across this picture and want to share. Judging by the obituary, Stevie was a great woman and lived a great life. Rest in peace...may light perpetual shine upon you always.

Dear Dena, Christopher, and Nicholas, and family, my heart breaks for you and for all of us who knew Stevie. I had enjoyed spending time with her at our pharmacy functions at MUSC over the years and especially the last few years as we shared hotel rooms and caught up on old times. She loved you fiercely and it was evident. She and I were planning to do some traveling together and I’m so glad she got her Isreal trip in. I am very sorry I was not able to come to her funeral and meet you and grieve with you in person, but I was on a trip with my granddaughter. We are deeply saddened to hear of Stevie’s passing. She was a dear friend who we met many years ago. We used to see her having breakfast alone every Sunday at the S&K cafeteria on the Parkway in Greenville. We asked her to join us and that was the start of a long friendship. Rest in peace dear friend.

I am so saddened by Stevie’s presence leaving all of us that loved her. I married into her family and am fortunate to have known her. My husband was uncle to Reagan Klein and our family were at the wedding and stayed in contact. Stevie and children came to visit us in MD and she visited us several times. I so enjoyed our time together, fun, laughter, museums, discussions about life and the world and religion. She was one of God’s children.she loved and honored her family and friends. Don and I only met Stevie on a recent trip to Israel. We really enjoyed her company and know her family will cherish her memory and all the trips and get togethers they were able to have with her during her lifetime. God Bless your family

In my new role at MUSC, I met Stevie this past October during the Golden Grads event, where she and her classmates were celebrating 50 years since they graduated from the College of Pharmacy. Then-Dean Dr. William Golod placed her Golden Grad medallion around her neck. On behalf of the MUSC College of Pharmacy, we send our condolences to her family and friends.

Stevie was such a kind person. She was my pharmacist for many years and by working with her daughter Dena for so many years, I began to know Stevie even more as a friend I guess you can say. There was never a time that I talked to her that she didn't bring up her kids and grandkids and talk about how proud she was of them. She will be greatly missed. Thinking and praying for all of the family.

Stevie was always such a kind and caring person. As one poignant example, yesterday I saw her message to me wishing me a happy birthday last June. She always expressed care and love to her extended family which was greatly appreciated. I am deeply saddened to hear of our sudden loss. May God's peace and grace comfort the family.

Words are hard to come by. I'm so glad I had a long phone conversation with Stevie a few months ago. We shared information and stories about our children, grandchildren, and other family members. It was so good to catch up with her and laugh about various things. My heart goes out to Kay and Caren as we have known each other for many years. I pray for their comfort and for the comfort of Stevie's children and grandchildren.

While in Israel, our group was touring at the same time Gov. Mike Huckabee’s group was there. I read the story of Ms. Stevie’s passing on the Israel Experience fb page. Prayers and condolences to the family and friends. (Ps. 23)

To the family, I hope that you can take comfort in knowing that Stevie was loved by her classmates at Greenville High School. It is sad to know that she will no longer be attending our get-togethers and reunions. As a friend of hers, I have many memories of the times we spent together and the fun and laughter that we shared during high school and in later years. Her legacy will live on in our hearts. May she rest in peace.

Dave and I were very saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of our very special friend, Stevie. We always enjoyed her passion she expressed by many topics we shared in common. Her dedication to her family and friends as well as her years as a Pharmacist helping so many people, is what truly made her a unique individual. We will miss her very much and hope that her children, grandchildren and family will have many loving memories of her. She and her family are in our prayers and we send our love.
