Tala Ann Monsour Howard, 86, of 211 Broughton Drive, passed away on December 11, 2006 surrounded by her loving family. Tala was born on April 1, 1920 in Fall River, MA to the late Hhanna and Farha Francis Monsour. She was a devoted wife to the late Johnny Howard and mother of ten. Tala was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church. Tala may have been an April Fool?s baby, but she was nobody?s fool. Tala?s beautiful smile was always contagious in her effervescent personality. In her youth she was a USO Hostess and known for her dancing. Upon her marriage in December of 1948 she moved to Greenville and started her family. Besides being a busy wife and mother, Tala was a Girl Scout leader, a friend of the sisters at the Monastery of St. Clare, and a St. Francis Hospital volunteer. She was a member of the St. Teresa Guild at St. Mary?s Catholic Church. Tala is survived by her daughter, Paula of Washington, DC; and six sons, Steve and wife Nancy, Pete, Alan and wife Shannon, Tony, and Greg all of Greenville and Vincent and wife Laura of Oxford, MI. She is also survived by a sister, Wadid Howayeck of Greenville. Tala had eleven grandchildren, Robby, Stephanie, Dixon, John and wife Sylvia, Bryan, Matthew and wife Sara, JP, Rachel, Elyse, Johnny, and Thomas; and two great grandchildren, Isabel and Noah. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra; two sons, Dixon and Robert; two brothers, John and Abdalla Monsour; and a sister, Eva Harb. Memorials may be made to Monastery of St. Clare, 1916 North Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 or the St. Rafka Maronite Mission c/o St. Mary?s Catholic Church, 111 Hampton Avenue, Greenville, SC 29601. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Noon at St. Mary?s Catholic Church followed by a luncheon celebrating Tala?s life at the home of Alan and Shannon Howard, 538 Chick Springs Road, Greenville. Wear purple in honor of Tala?s favorite color. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. O?Grady and her associates at Internal Medicine Associates and the 4-C staff at Greenville Memorial Medical Center for their compassion and care to Tala.
