Ted William Hudson

Ted Hudson, 83, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center on Pelham Road, Greenville. He formerly resided at 343 Batesville Road, Simpsonville for 52 years. He was born on September 11, 1924 as the son of the late John and Dora Cooper Hudson. Mr. Hudson served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 70th Tank Battalion in Germany. He was a charter member of Five Forks Baptist Church, Batesville Road, Simpsonville where he served as Deacon and also as an usher for over 40 years. He was faithfully serving each Sunday in spite of the weather to distribute bulletins and share a friendly greeting to everyone. He was a faithful Christian and depended on His Lord every day and through every trial. He loved his Lord, his wife and his family and his church. He made friends everywhere he went. He was a supervisor of the wire department of Steele Heddle Manufacturing Company in Greenville for over 30 years. Mr. Hudson was a Mason and Shriner. He conducted tours of Shriner's Hospital for several years until his health worsened. He was an amazing survivor of multiple heart surgeries and major strokes. He began walking five miles Monday through Saturday with a group of men who had gone through heart surgeries at the old Greenville Mall each morning. This physical fitness helped him withstand thirty years of major heart problems. He is survived by his wife, Annie L. "Pat" Hudson of 63 years. Due to health complications, Pat is a resident of National Health Care, Mauldin. Also surviving are two daughters, Janice Holcombe and her husband Tommy of Mauldin and Cathy Hudson Hill of Wendell, N. C. Mr. Hudson is survived by three grandchildren, Mitchell Holcombe and fiance Viviana Henao, Shannon Holcombe Reed and husband Collin, and Christi Pittman. Christi was born on September 11, 1973, the same birth date as Mr. Hudson, her grandfather. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Jackson Barrett Reed and Olivia Grace-Ellen Reed of Fountain Inn and Kayla Barker and Cade Pittman of Inman and Luke Harmon of Georgia. Mr. Hudson also is survived by a friend who was like a daughter, Susan Locke Harmon and her husband Leon of Easley and their family Andrew, Melissa and Luke Harmon of Georgia, Matthew Harmon of Annapolis, MD, and Ben of the home. Mr. Hudson is survived by his sisters, Jean Ballard of Greer; Mae Jones of Greenville, Nelle Boyce and Carole Gray Brandt of Simpsonville. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, James and Joe Hudson and his sisters Edna Tate and Dot Boling. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, and also prior to the service at Five Forks Baptist Church, Batesville Rd., on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Five Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the home of his daughter, Janice Holcombe, 951 Fargo St., Mauldin.
