The Reverend Robert G. Coon (Bob), 76, devoted husband of 54 years to Ann Barker Coon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Born in Lincolnton, NC, he was the son of Nellie Brown Coon and the late Robert Clarence Coon.

Bob attended Lenoir-Rhyne University and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He retired after 33 years as the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and went on to become the CEO of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Foundation.

Bob met Ann at Lenoir-Rhyne, fell in love, and married in July of 1968 in Staunton, VA. Shortly thereafter, they started their family. They enjoyed spending time with their family, friends, church congregation, and sweet dog, Callie.

In addition to his mother, Nellie of Clemmons, NC, Bob’s legacy will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loving wife, Ann; two wonderful children, Elizabeth Piller and husband, Shannon of Greenville, SC, Robert W. Coon and wife, Lindsay of Little Rock, AR; eight precious grandchildren, Will and Jay Boone, Lucy, Sally, and Sam Coon, Tyler, Coley, and Justin Piller; and his loving sister, Nancy Lineback and husband, Ed of Winston Salem, NC.

Bob was a very faithful, generous, outgoing, adorable and loving man. He meant so much to so many people over the years. In his own words, he truly “lived a wonderful life”.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The entombment of cremated remains will immediately follow in the church columbarium. A reception will be held in the church multipurpose room just following this interment service.

Bob was my most favorite pastor ever! We kept each other on our toes. My favorite memory of Bob was when we had a special needs son, he called me into his office to talk. As we talked and cried he told me to look for him in heaven and get in line behind him. This would be the why line. As life went on we moved away and ended up starting a therapeutic horseback riding program. We have touched so many lives. I would always think back to that day and think”This-is why Bob”. I know the sadness you feel and I hold your family close to my heart. God will carry you!

I was blessed to have Pastor Coon as my pastor in my youth. It has made all the difference in world in my life as an adult. Prayers for the family!

Pastor Coon was a good friend and a joy to be with. His wisdom and humor played such a big part in our lives.

There are no words to describe how much Bob Coon meant to our family! Not only as our Pastor, but as a very beloved friend to us. He was always there for what ever we needed. During the good times and bad! Births, deaths, baptism, what ever, Bob was there. He will be sorely missed! We love you Bob!

Bob has a special place in our family. When our son Nathan was 4we were leaving church one Sunday and Bob bent down to speak with Nathan as he usually did. Nathan reached up and held the cross Bob wore. I knew with utter complete certainty that Nathan would one day be a pastor. I eventually told both Bob and Joe of what I called my vision. Through Nathan's growing up years Bob served as a wonderful .mentotr to him. As a teacher one never knows where one influence ends, Bob'b light still shines

I am so deeply saddened by the loss of Pastor Coon. He was my pastor from my birth until he retired from Trinity. He baptized me, confirmed me, and married me. I admired and respected him deeply. Peace be with his family.

Pastor Bob Coon was such an important mentor and guide to me growing up at Trinity. He will be forever remembered and his memory cherished. My heartfelt condolences to his wife, Ann, children, and all of his family and friends.

Bob baptized our first child. My husband, John, worked with Ann. She invited us to the church. We have wonderful memories of the friends and our time at Trinity. Prayers for the family.

I am so sorry to read this, about your wonderful Dad. Please know our prayers are with you during this sad time. He is rejoicing, during his first Thanksgiving with our Lord, take comfort in that!

Dear Mrs. Coon and family, It has been many years since we've been in contact. Reading about the passing of Rev. Coon brought back many cherished memories. He dearly loved his "Ann". One of the last times I saw him was before you had your first child. Such a Godly, outgoing person. I am sorry for your loss, but rejoice knowing that he is walking heavenly streets of gold.
