Thomas “Tom” Joseph Evatt, 88, devoted husband of 65 years to Martha Carolyn Moore Evatt, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the home of his son, Phil, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Samuel Wightman and Gertrude Sarah Crowe Evatt.
As a student at Travelers Rest High School, he worked as a school bus driver for 3 years. After graduation, he was employed with Kash & Karry Wholesale for 3 years until he was drafted into the US Army, where he served in Germany for 2 years and back home in active reserves for 4 more.
By trade, Tom was a meat cutter who worked proudly for Winn Dixie for over 23 years and Bi-Lo for over 27 years. In 1990, he and his three sons formed a partnership and started GameOn, where he spent most every day.
His memory will live on with his loving family: his wife, Martha Carolyn Moore Evatt; four wonderful children, Thomas Joseph “Joe” Evatt, Jr., James Samuel “Sam” Evatt and wife, Loida Mercado Evatt, Philip “Phil” Alan Evatt and wife, Jackie Hendrix Evatt, and Helyn Elisabeth Evatt and partner, Arnold “Arnie” Russo; eight adoring grandchildren, Sophia and Averie Evatt, Amberley E. Raushenberger and husband, Josh, Heather Evatt, Samuel Jameson Evatt and wife, Madisen, Alan, Betsy, and Caroline Evatt; one precious great grandson, Elias Raushenberger; and his beloved sister, Grace Cowart and husband, James “Bud,” and numerous other loving family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Julie Miller Evatt, and his loving siblings, Sarah A. Evatt, Henry Leland Evatt, and Billy S. Evatt.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 14, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The Funeral Service will be Friday, April 15, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A graveside service will immediately follow in Graceland Cemetery West.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Trinity Fellowship Church Youth, 3610 Brushy Creek Road, Greer, SC, 29650 where he was a faithful and committed member.
