Thomas M. Speck, 92, resident of Greenville, loving husband of the late Bobbie J. Speck for 66 years, died August 13, 2016 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home.
Born in Decatur, Alabama on May 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas B. Speck and Ethel Brooks.
Mr. Speck was a WWII Marine Veteran. He was in the 1st Armored Amphibian Tank Battalion and a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient for meritorious service in the Pacific Theatre.
He retired from Carolina Freight Carriers, was a member of Monaghan Baptist Church in Greenville, SC, a member of the Sam Poe Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a member of James F. Daniel American Legion, Post 3 for 42 years.
He had many hobbies including fishing, hunting, CB and Ham operation, taxidermy, art, and drag racing. But his love for our country and the U.S. Marine Corp. was his favorite.
He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Hester (Steve); two grandchildren, Heather Philpot (Joe) and Brandon Hester (Lindsey); three great-grandchildren, Haleigh, Claire and Parker; and one favorite nephew, Tommy Rockholt.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nathalee Rockholt.
The visitation will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Monaghan Baptist Church from 1:30 P.M. until 2:45 P.M. with the funeral following at 3:00 P.M.
