Thomas “Tom” G. Vermillion, 87, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Jesse M. Vermillion and Mamie L. Grice Vermillion.
Tom was the longest surviving male member of Woodside Baptist Church where he served as former Deacon, door greeter and was a member of the choir. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He spent 20 years with the Parker District Fire Department and 20 years at Roadway Express. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #251 (Monaghan), a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and a member of Hejaz Shrine (Directors Staff).
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol Yeargin Vermillion; daughters, Toni Vermillion Mason and Joy Vermillion Lacey (Michael); five grandchildren, Brock Mason (Tiffany), Cody Mason, Mia, Emily and Pressley Lacey; three great grandchildren, Rylan and Rylee Mason and Madilynn Mason; and his two furry companions “Tommy” and “Daisey.”
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Roberts, Martha Bradley and Mary Vermillion; brothers, Douglas and Joe Vermillion. At the time of his death, Tom was the last remaining bearer to carry on the Vermillion surname.
Tom was known for the tremendous amount of love he had for his family and many friends. He loved music, fishing, golfing and his church family. he made it his mission to bring a smile to everyone’s face. He loved to make people laugh and was always up for a good prank.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
