Thomas Wilson Tuten, 86, husband of Mary Francis Payne Tuten, died Friday, April 2, 2021.
Born in Ridgeland, SC on June 17, 1943, he was the son of the late Leonard Wilson Tuten and Jennie Pearl Langford Tuten.
Thomas grew up in Ridgeland and graduated from Ridgeland High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. While at Carolina, he was a Senate Page. Mr. Tuten worked at Westinghouse Electric Corp out of college as a sales engineer and continued to work many more years in the industry. He retired from Seltrol, Inc., where he was co-owner, at the age of 75. Thomas was a dedicated Gamecock fan and went to all of the home games for more than 50 years. He loved the game of football and was a high school and college football official. Thomas was a member of First Baptist Greenville where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Seminar-Corder Sunday School class. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was always there when his family needed him.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, he is survived by his son, Thomas Wilson Tuten, Jr.; daughter, Tammi Whitehouse (Scott); grandson, Luke Whitehouse, all of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Anderson; and his brother, Ralph Tuten.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Crescent Hospice and especially Tracy and Teresa who cared for Thomas during his illness.
