Ty William Childs, born January 27, 1950 to the late Evelyn Oglesby and Louis Francis Childs, passed away on July 20, 2021, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Childs; his children Greg Childs and his wife Mary, and Abbey Bell and her husband Greg; his grandchildren Annamarie and Evie Bell, Emerson, Cannon, Lila and Skylar Childs; step grandsons Edward, Mason, and Patrick Brierton; his sister Emilyn Sanders and her husband Dan; brother Dan Childs and his wife Jan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was particularly grateful for the medical attention he received from his nephew Dr. John Sanders.
A lifelong resident of Greenville and a direct descendant of Walter Childs who settled in Jamestown in 1636, Ty was a 1969 graduate of Greenville High School and attended the University of South Carolina.
Ty treasured his countless friends and was the officiant at the marriage of many couples. He loved American history, international travel, and dogs both large and small. Ty will be remembered for his zest for life.
Friends are welcome to view and leave notes of condolence for the family between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021 and an hour before the service that will be held on Friday, July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel.
