Walter Edwin McDaniel

April 25, 1921 - January 31, 2008
Reverend Walter Edwin McDaniel, 86, of 19 Granada Drive, widower of Mary Ellen Upton McDaniel, died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at St. Francis, Downtown. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Walter E McDaniel, Sr. and Zelpha Hudgens McDaniel. A graduate of Pelzer High School, he received his BS degree from Furman University and did Post Graduate work at Emory University. He was a United States Army Ranger veteran having served during WWII and was a P.O.W. for 15 months. Reverend McDaniel was a retired United Methodist Minister and served in many churches including Ebenezer UMC, Greenville; Liberty UMC, Gowansville; Bethel UMC, Simpsonville; Buncombe Street UMC, Greenville; Piedmont UMC, Piedmont; Montgomery Memorial UMC, Pacolet Mills; Grace UMC, Greer; Appalache UMC, Appalache; St. Pauls UMC, Ridgeland; and Zion UMC, Lancaster. Surviving are two sons, Walter E "Dan" McDaniel, III of Greenville, J. David McDaniel of New Market AL; and two grandsons, Danny and Joseph McDaniel. Visitation will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will be at their respective homes.
