Walter Maurice Jarvis

Walter Maurice Jarvis, 85, of 5101 Cedar Donne Circle, husband of Elvira Hernandez Jarvis of Miami, FL., died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at his residence. Born in Washington, DC., he was the son of the late Charles Frederick and Nona Houlihan Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis was a retired teacher with the Greenville County School System. He also taught in the Shenandoah Valley Area of Virginia, and Barranquilla, Colombia. He attended Prince of Peace Catholic Church and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and was a United States Coast Guard Veteran. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Helen ?Vickie? Jarvis-Desmond and her husband John of Staunton, VA., Angelique Jarvis Gonzalez of Simpsonville, Phillippa Jarvis of Miami, FL.; five sons, Charles W. Jarvis and his wife Vikke of Purcellville, VA., Thomas Jarvis and his wife Maria of Wyoming, Carleton Jarvis of Simpsonville, D?Arcy Jarvis of Orlando, FL., Alan Jarvis of Miami, FL.; nineteen grandchildren, Windle, Peter, Christopher, Jonathan, Frederick, Michael and Hector Jarvis, Damian, Nell, Ben, Dominic, Brendan, Kerry, Mathias, and Mary Desmond; Amy and David Hurtado, Alexandra Gonzalez and Natalia Hardin; as well as three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Powers Jarvis and a grandson, Clemson Jarvis. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic School, 309 Gower Street, Greenville, SC 29611 or to the Greenville County School District, Box 2848, 301 Camperdown, Greenville, SC 29602. Recitation of the Rosary will be held Friday, June 9, 2006 at 7:00 pm with visitation following until 9:00 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, 639 N. Main Street, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park on Wade Hampton Blvd. The family will be at the home.
