Weston Miller Steele

Weston Miller Steele, 84, of 10 Cole Road, widower of Elizabeth Clark Steele, died Monday, November 19, 2007 at Hospice of the Upstate. Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Dena Mauldin Steele. Mr. Steele was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation and also worked at Gaylord Box Company. A devoted husband, father and grandfather Mr. Steele was a very active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, and for nearly 50 years he taught Junior Boys Sunday School. He was a United States Army veteran having served during WWII and was involved in the invasion of Normandy. He was a P.O.W. for one year and nine months in Germany and was awarded the WWII Victory Ribbon. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jerry Nalley of Liberty; two grandsons, David Nalley and his wife, Pam, of Liberty, Jonathan Nalley and his wife, Tara, of Simpsonville; and a brother, Wallace Steele of Greenville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Edward Steele. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabernacle Children?s Home, 3931 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2007 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens. The family will be at the residence, 10 Cole Road, Greenville.
