William Edward Leyers (Bill), 80, of Simpsonville died Saturday, February 10, 2018 at NHC Mauldin.
A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly Faye and their three sons – Scott, his wife Karen, and grandchildren Cameron, Connor and Kevin (of Simpsonville, SC), Craig, his wife Blake, and grandchildren Rachel, Eric and Colin (of Nashville, TN) and Brian (of Simpsonville, SC).
Born in Louisville, KY, on January 21, 1938, Mr. Leyers was the son of the late Hugh Robert and Helen Louise Moser Leyers.
Bill graduated from Manual High School in Louisville, KY and went on to earn both his Bachelor and Masters of Chemical Engineering from the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville where he was active in the Theta Tau engineering fraternity.
After a successful career lasting over 40 years as a chemical process engineer, he retired as a Process Engineering Manager from Fluor Daniel in Greenville, SC.
A veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force, Bill served in the United States and Korea during the Vietnam War.
His was an avid radio control airplane enthusiast who built and flew his own model planes and was a member of the Western Carolina RC club. A big sports fan, he enjoyed cheering for the University of Louisville but especially loved U of L basketball.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast Chapel in Simpsonville followed by a time of visitation.
