William DeWitt Ables

William DeWitt Ables, 80, husband of Doris Russell Ables, died Saturday, March 25, 2006. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William Clark and Melvia Cole Ables. Mr. Ables retired from the Greenville City Police Department after 25 years of service and later retired from the ILD Department of Bank of America. He was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church and was a United States Navy Veteran having served on the U.S.S. Mertz during WWII. He was a life member of the S.C. Retirees, the Wade Hampton Masonic Lodge #404, American Legion Post #3, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 59 years, are a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jerry Johnson of Greenville; two grandsons, William Christopher Swords of Jacksonville, FL, Daniel Lee Swords and his wife Alla of Atlanta, GA; four great grandchildren, Christopher, Sunny, Alexander, and Lauren Swords. Memorials may be made to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, 1800 E. North Street, Greenville, SC 29607. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 12:00 pm in Remembrance Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Remembrance Chapel.
