William “Junior” Marshall Kay, Jr., 94, beloved husband of Ann Cole Kay for 71 years, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, February 2, 2022.
Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Marshall and Agnes Madden Kay.
Junior was a faithful member of Berea First Baptist Church. He was a prominent member of the community. He loved and was loved deeply by all who knew him. Junior owned and operated Kay’s Restaurant and Kay’s Kitchen for many years; he was also employed by Chick-fil-A and worked at several different locations, including Woodruff Road and Haywood Mall. He was a board member of the Greenville Memorial Auditorium. Over a 28 year span, he worked for Furman University concession during football and soccer season. Junior was an original member of the Greenville County Council and was a Commissioner at Parker Fire & Sewer District for eight years; he had a strong work ethic and was dedicated and loved serving his community.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Junior was lovingly known as “Papa Kay” not only by his family, but by all of those he left his imprint on by his loving and compassionate nature. His presence will be missed but his memory and legacy will carry on through his family.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by son, Alan Kay (Wanda); daughter, Marsha Kay; granddaughters, Shelly Haddon (Patrick) and Abbey Poff (Dan); great-grandchildren, Bonner, Mary and Eleanor Haddon and Mac, Gus, and Deacon Poff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Kay; brothers, Ralph, Andrew, Bob, and Foster Kay; and sisters, Sara Masters and Betty Kay; and special life long friend, Paul Carter.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 06, 2022 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Berea First Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in Graceland Cemetery West .
