William Patrick Lenny

July 5, 1929 - January 27, 2008
William Patrick Lenny, 78, husband of Nancy M. Lenny, died Sunday, January 27, 2008. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Dennis and Florence Byrne Lenny. Mr. Lenny served in the Navy during the Korean War and then became an Ordained Deacon in 1971 in the first class of Deacons in the United States. He was a member of the Detroit Diocese and the first Deacon in the U.S. to be made Assistant Pastor of a church at St. Bernard Catholic Church in North Auburn, Ohio. He then served as Deacon at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Colleen Lenny Clark and Brigid Kathleen Waring and her husband, Tommy; two sons, Sean Patrick Lenny and Timothy Joseph Lenny; and six grandchildren, Patrick, Mary Catherine, Tripp, Katie, Lilly and Anna. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother, James Lenny and Patricia Fournier. A Vigil Service will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 6:30 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with visitation to follow until 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 30 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Church, 3710 Augusta Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
