William Smith Webster, Sr., 94, widower of Maude Nesmith Webster, died, June 25, 2006 in the nursing care unit of Rolling Green Village. He was born on June 16, 1912, near Mayo, S.C., to the late Thomas F. and Annie Turner Webster. His early years were spent in Cowpens. The family moved to Greenville in 1925. For many years, he managed the floor covering department of Sullivan Hardware and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. After his retirement in 1979, he moved to Murrells Inlet, S.C. where he sold real estate. He was a Hejaz Shriner and served for more than sixty years as a Mason. A veteran of World War II, he was assigned to duty in the Signal Corps in the Pacific. Surviving are three children, Will Webster, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Greenville, Jane Webster of Advance, N.C., Tom Webster and his wife Patricia of Spartanburg; three grandsons, Smith, Thomas, and Travis Webster; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Bryan of Greenville and two brothers, Dan Webster of Greensboro, N.C. and John Webster of Kernersville, N.C. Special appreciation is given to the nursing staff of Rolling Green Village and the St. Francis Hospital Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner?s Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605. A memorial service will be held at Rolling Green Village on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends in the community room at 1:30 pm.
