Yolanda Kim Thurston

Yolanda Kim Thurston, 53, of 203 Berkley Avenue, wife of Jimmy S. Thurston, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at her residence. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Francisco Franco and Patricia Ann Gentry Vargas. Mrs. Thurston was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. One of her greatest joy's in life was spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 33 years, are three daughters, Chana M. Smith and husband, Ken, of Travelers Rest, Amanda L. Thurston of Pickens and Kayla B. Coker and husband, Daryl, of Easley; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Frankie Vargas and Berry Vargas both of Greenville. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Chana Smith, 14 Center Street, Travelers Rest.
